For race fans
  • Free entrance for you and one guest, and free camping for you (your guest will have to pay for camping if they’re staying overnight, and not volunteering

  • Free t-shirt each year you volunteer
  • Free lunch each day you volunteer
  • Free beverages on Saturday nights when you volunteer – Adult beverages (21+), pop, water.
  • For those that become addicted to the action, you’ll have the opportunity to earn CRA swag not available for sale, such as; Logo’d and embroidered CRA worker jackets, track bags, and rain suits. Special gifts may be provided for those who work the 5-hour endurance race.
  • For prospective and current racers, all of the above plus
  • Better familiarization with racing rules and regulations (understanding what corner workers are looking for, safety and conduct wise)
  • Better understanding of flag usage
  • You can study the entire corner, seeing where the fast guys/girls turn in and exit, where their coming off the brakes and rolling on the throttle
  • You’ll get to know your Corner Workers, and they’ll get to know you. This may seem insignificant, but when it comes time for them to respond to your incident, you may be somewhat more comforted to see that familiar face, and know you’re getting the best response in amateur Road racing
  •
    Opportunities
There are many different opportunities for volunteering in the CRA. No matter what your interests are or how much time you can/want to volunteer, we’ll probably be able to find a place for you. Here is a list of some of the possible positions you could volunteer for (by no means is this list exhaustive).
  • Corner Working: If you want to see the races up close, and get that occasional adrenaline rush, corning working is where it’s at.
  • Front Gate: If you have limited time to volunteer, or prefer to stay out of the weather Front Gate could be the right place for you. The building is air conditioned and it’ll keep you dry in the rain. Also, shifts are typically four hours long.
  • Tapers: Taping is crucial support for the Timing and Scoring team. These people simply record the bike numbers as they pass, as a back up to our Radio Frequency timing system. These workers are located at the straight away, witnessing all the starts and finishes.
  • Tech: Do you know sportbikes? Can you follow simple directions? Chief of Tech could use some help in the tech barn starting on Thursday evenings.
  •
    Be Prepared
Things every corner worker should have
  • Track bag: A small duffle or backpack to haul your track stuff in.
  • Extra layers of clothing. We have experienced everything from scorching heat with 120°f track temperature, to freezing winds and flurries (and yes, they continued to race)!
  • White pants and shirts are preferable (and cool); Yellow and Red will not be allowed on Corner stations.
  • White Dickies© painters’ pants can be purchased from Fleet Farm or Wal-Mart (both in town, in Brainerd) for under $20.00
  • Blue jeans are also acceptable, but shorts and skirts are not appropriate for corner workers
  • Rain gear. Racing will continue through the rain, anyone planning on working outside should have rain gear.
  • Again no Yellow or Red rain gear preferred at corner stations
  • Sun Screen: Duh.
  • Hat or headscarf: Again no Yellow or Red on corner stations
  • Bug Spray
  • Comfortable shoes with covered toes and heels (NO sandals trackside)
  • Work gloves: for picking up HOT motorcycles and motorcycle parts
  • Sunglasses
  • Smoking and a small number of non-working visitors are allowed on Corner Stations, at the discretion of your Corner Captain
  • Nice things to have with you at the track
  • Two-way FRS radios in case you and your friends end up working different locations
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Squirt guns
  • Snacks: For munchin’.
  • Ear plugs
  • Chair
  • Pit bikes (must be 16+ to operate outside of Fiddy Playground)
  • What to do, and what to expect
  • When you arrive at BIR go to the Ticket booth (brick building to your left as you approach the front gate) and tell the attendant that you are a new worker. You may be asked what specialty you’re there to work, if you don’t know, just tell them, "I dunno". They’ll get you signed in and issue you your workers wristbands.
  • The day you work, you’ll need to report to the worker meeting in order to get your assignments. On Friday, the meeting is at 9:00am; Saturday and Sunday at 8:00am. If you can’t make it to the worker meeting, you can still volunteer, just go to the base of the tower (large tall building next to Drag Strip) and explain to anyone wearing a "Race Staff", "Race Official", or CRA jacket that you are there to volunteer. Remember, you’re never too late to volunteer to help; you may just be really early for the next race weekend ;-).
  • BIR is a great place to spend the weekend whether you’re an outgoing, partier that’ll sleep on the ground, or a family with kids and a dog and prefer the full RV hookup. You can set your campsite up where the party never ends, or in the quite family camping area, or stay at one of the many area hotels. On premise amenities include full-service RV hook-up areas, showers with hot water, restrooms with flushing toilets as well as many port-a-johns throughout the property, "Bada-Boom" an on-site bar that opens on Friday and Saturday nights, WiFi access, a Fiddy Playground where you can rip it up on your dirt bike (2 and 4 strokers from 50cc to 125cc, and at least 16 years of age), and near by Baxter/Brainerd commerce featuring many convenience, grocery, and liquor stores, supermarkets and restaurants.
  • Additional club activities (on selected weekends) include pit bike races, brat feeds, on track parade laps, mock crash scene training in conjunction with North Memorial air-ship, charitable fundraisers, Worker Fire (weather and fire conditions permitting), and loosely organized activities such as Wiffle ball (this activity has been know to cause hangovers…).
  • Remember, you don’t need to personally know anyone in the CRA to come up and work; you just need to be 18years old, have an interest in sportbikes or racing in general, and looking for a good time. The CRA club is a family that’s always looking for new members, come on up and join us.
  • Finally, some rules to keep in mind
There are three Race Stewards that are in charge of the CRA while on premise. As well, BIR has their own security and they patrol all day and night.
  • All visitors must sign a release form before entering BIR property
  • Visitors that act in gross violation of BIR or CRA rules we be removed from the premises without refund
  • On premise speed limits are enforced
  • Exhibition driving/riding without express permission from BIR and CRA will not be tolerated (save that stuff for the Fiddy Playground)
  • All vehicles driven/ridden after dark must be equipped with permanently affixed head lights (flashlights strapped to handle bars are not acceptable)
  • Vehicles impounded by BIR security for exhibition driving/riding, or speeding are subject to a $100 fine and will not be released until the end of the weekend and/or the owner surrenders their admission wrist bands.
  • Pit bikes that are owned by racers or race teams must display the race number of the owner or responsible party.
  • All vehicle operators must be 16+ and have a valid drivers license.
